- Hintergrund
- Cyclins are evolutionarily conserved regulatory proteins that are essential for controlling the progression of the cell-cycle. Proliferating cells express both cyclin B1 and cyclin B2, expression is normally low in G0/G1, increases in S, and is maximal during the G2/M phase of cell division. Cyclin B1 can be found both on intracellular membranes and free in the cytoplasm, in contrast to cyclin B2, which is membrane-associated. Cyclin B1 binds to p34Cdc2, also known as Cdk1, a cyclin-dependent kinase, to form an inactive complex that accumulates in the cytoplasm. Dephosphorylation by Cdc25 results in activation of the complex and translocation to the nucleus. Cyclin B1 is rapidly degraded at the end of mitosis, and this degradation is essential for cells to exit from mitosis.Synonyms: CCNB, CCNB1, Cyclin-B1, G2/mitotic-specific cyclin-B1
