IEX-1 was originally characterized as a gene induced by ultraviolet radiation and TNF-alpha, which protected human squamous carcinoma cells from apoptosis. Subsequent transfection studies have also shown that expression of IEX-1 in human keratinocytes and mouse fibroblasts results in more rapid proliferation of the cells as compared with controls. The IEX-1 promoter contains binding motifs for both NFKB and p53, suggesting that these proteins may regulate its expression. IEX-1 expression may be modulated by AML1 and TPO.Synonyms: DIF2, Differentiation-dependent gene 2 protein, GLY96, IEX-1, Immediate early protein GLY96, Immediate early response 3 protein, PACAP-responsive gene 1 protein, PRG1, Radiation-inducible immediate-early gene IEX-1
