- Hintergrund
- PLTP is one of at least two lipid transfer proteins found in human plasma. This protein transfers phospholipids from triglyceride-rich lipoproteins to high density lipoprotein (HDL). In addition to regulating the size of HDL particles, it may be involved in cholesterol metabolism. Plasma phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) plays a central role in regulating plasma HDL levels and distribution of HDL subpopulations. This regulation is evidenced in vivo by markedly reduced plasma HDL levels in PLTP gene knock-out mice. PLTP also facilitates free cholesterol influx into HDL.Synonyms: Lipid Transfer Protein II, Phospholipid Transfer Protein
