Hintergrund
17OHP is an endogenous progestogen steroid hormone primarily produced in the adrenal glands and to some degree in the gonads, specifically the corpus luteum of the ovary. Levels are increased during the luteal phase. Measurements of 17OHP levels are useful in the evaluation of patients with suspected congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) as well as part of a battery of tests to evaluate females with hirsutism or infertility. It is part of the standard newborn screening programs in many countries
