- Hintergrund

The activator protein transcription factor (AP-1) was identified as a protein that recognizes specific sequences in the cis-control regions of the SV40 virus and the human metallothionein IIA gene. AP-1 is composed of protein products of two different gene families: jun and fos. The AP-1 transcription factor is either a homodimer of Jun proteins or a heterodimer of Jun and Fos proteins. The transcriptional activity of Jun is enhanced by phosphorylation of serines 63 (S63) and 73 in its activation domain. Phosphorylation at both sites is necessary for stimulating the activating function of Jun. Jun is phosphorylated by JNK protein kinases that are activated by the same signals that potentiate Jun activity.
The 2/c-Jun/(S63) monoclonal antibody recognizes the phosphorylated S63 of c-Jun. - Molekulargewicht
